The Sedona Conference Institute will bring its unique dialogue-based format to the inaugural APAC Regional Programme on Cross-Border Discovery and Data Protection Laws at Mayer Brown in Hong Kong. Unlike other continuing legal education programmes, all of the faculty are present for the entire Programme, and faculty members participate in all aspects of the Programme. The format involves dialogue not only among faculty members, but also with the Programme participants, who are invited and encouraged to contribute their comments and perspectives to the dialogue.

While information has become many organizations' greatest asset, it has also become subject to a variety of risks and compliance frameworks. Traditionally, these issues have been addressed by different parts of the organization and compartmentalized within the legal or compliance department. However, there is a growing trend to manage these issues holistically as organizations strategically address their evolving information technology and infrastructure needs. In the Asia Pacific region, these issues are further complicated by questions about the location of data centers and the legal frameworks that will apply to the technology, data and users.

This Programme features a renowned faculty consisting of data protection authorities, in-house counsel, information governance professionals, and outside counsel. As with all Sedona Conference programmes, the faculty has been assembled with the objective of achieving a balance between the public and private sectors, in-house and outside counsel, and plaintiff and defense views.

Leading edge topics for the panels at the Programme include:

  • Emerging trends and developments in APAC data privacy and cybersecurity;
  • Information governance as a new frontier in APAC
  • eDiscovery and cross-border data transfer issues in APAC.

The Programme also features a panel focused on how to effectively evaluate all of the risks regarding information governance, privacy, data security, and cross-border discovery for organizations operating in APAC, including locating IT assets in different jurisdictions.

The ultimate objective of the Programme is not solely to engage in thought-provoking and stimulating dialogue on these issues, but also generate ideas and strategies to:

  • Best address the fast-growing security, privacy, information governance, and eDiscovery obligations in APAC
  • Achieve greater practical application of Sedona’s International Principles on a global basis.

All of this is done through an exciting and stimulating dialogue-based format.

Please be sure to join us for the cocktail hour at the end of the Programme from 6:00 to 7:00 at the China Club: 12/F, The Old Bank of China Building, Bank Street, Central, Hong Kong.

We hope to see you in Hong Kong!
