The Sedona Conference Public Town Hall on Qualified Immunity

Date
-

TIme: 12:30 p.m. (EDT)

Duration: 90 minutes

The Sedona Conference invites the public to join us for a free online Town Hall with The Honorable Cathy Bissoon, U.S. District Court Judge for the Western District of Pennsylvania, and The Honorable David A. Sanders, U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of Mississippi, for a discussion of their recently published scholarly article: From the KKK to George Floyd: Three Judges Explore Qualified Immunity. The article, authored by Judges Bissoon, Sanders, and Benita Y. Pearson, U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Ohio, was published in Volume 22 of The Sedona Conference Journal and examines the often-used defense of qualified immunity in a historical context and highlights the primary opposition to its continued utilization, focusing on its role in litigation of excessive force claims.

The scholarly article is available for free download via this link on The Sedona Conference website: From the KKK to George Floyd: Three Judges Explore Qualified Immunity.

It is one of two companion articles on social justice issues that were included in Volume 22 of The Sedona Conference Journal. It was accompanied by an article authored by The Honorable Bernice B. Donald, appellate court judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit: Implicit Bias: The Science, Influence, and Impact on Justice.

The Town Hall is free and open to all, but prior registration is required. Details regarding participation will be included in your registration confirmation. If you have any questions about how to register for the Town Hall or are interested in becoming a member of The Sedona Conference, please contact our office at info@sedonaconference.org or +1(602) 258-4910.
