Joe is a Senior Corporate Counsel at Cisco where he analyzes complex business and IP issues and provides business oriented counseling to executive leadership and engineering within his division. Joe's role at Cisco includes protecting innovations through patents and trade secrets, supporting ongoing IP litigation efforts, and providing inbound and outbound contractual IP and business support. Joe also oversees a Patent Technology and Trade Secret Committee. Before joining Cisco through an acquisition, Joe was Director, Patent and Technology Counsel at Acacia Communications where he established Acacia’s internal intellectual property function and had responsibility for all aspects of Acacia’s IP. His practice includes overseeing the development and management of Acacia’s patent and trademark portfolios, patent drafting and prosecution, trade secret protection, IP licensing, standards, Open Source, supporting IP related litigation matters and contract negotiations, as well as general IP counseling.
