Hon. Melody Stewart
Melody Stewart was elected in 2018 as the 161st justice to serve on the Supreme Court of Ohio. Prior to joining the Supreme Court, Justice Stewart served on the Ohio Court of Appeals – Eighth District for twelve years and was the court’s Administrative Judge in 2013. Before joining the bench, Justice Stewart worked as an assistant law director for the cities of Cleveland and East Cleveland, and subsequently as a member of the faculty and/or administration at the law schools of Cleveland State University, the University of Toledo, and Case Western Reserve University. She also taught at Ursuline College. Justice Stewart earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati; her law degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, Cleveland State University; and a Ph.D. from the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University. She also has been awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Cleveland State University.
